Amazing

At the moment I have a problem with my A3, may be you can tell me what to to: First the Reverser Finger loosen, so I have to tighten the screw which was only possible by removing super heater. But now when I heat them only the wistle works, but no steam in cylinder. What can I do?

Thats because they only say not to dismantl Hornbys live steam modles.

Hi,
I suppose that when you removed the superheater, you also removed the main steam rotary valve. And then when reassembling, a 180° error occured. When the arm is in back position, one hole of the rotary valve should face the port hole to the whistle and that when the arm is in front the other hole of main valve faces the port hole to cylinders.
Cheers

This is a fantastic video. Thanks for making it.
I was able to work out exactly what was wrong with my A4 (there were actually 3 different problems). The hardest of all to properly fix was the timing and there's no way I could have done it without this video. Literally 1/8 of a turn of the timing screw makes quite a big difference. It took me many steamings to get it right (initially the A4 would not move at all).
Now the A4 actually runs better than it did when it was new.

i thought hornby said that under no circumstances you were allowed to take a live steam locomtive apart

I never heard or read of Hornby banning locos dismantling. They are aware long time ago of what I did. Obviously they should be fair denouncing guarantee. Everybody does at his own risk.
