An incredible drum pounding recording by Bobbie Graham played sparsely in 1965. Allycool and his co-partner in music, AKA the Great SC discuss the mysteries of this record. Was it jazz? Was it Surf? Was it Big Band? We heard the record played on radio KLIV out of San Jose California that played a lot of surf music from 1962 to 1965. Well, some further research says that Bobbie Graham was a drummer for the Dave Clark 5. This drum solo rates up there with Topsy pt. 2 and Wipe Out. End is cut off were Ally says, let our audience decide?

  • Consider this my own ' theme ' tune, heard it on one of the sponsored Philips record programmes on Radio Luxembourg ( the great 208) in early 1965.They only played up to the drum solo to maximise the number of records in a 15 min.show.The great Jimmy Page on that rockin' guitar !.Finally got a mint copy on eBay 2 years ago.Should have been a monster hit in the UK but never was.Bobbie died only recently,a huge talent of so many monster hits.

  • Thank you for the comment and update, flammash, yes, should have been a smash in the UK, which is were I got the copy you hear here on You Tube.

  • I would think if the record was defective, you could have gotten your $ back. Soap & water could have probably removed the thingys. but feel to listen to it anytime you want here on You Tube.

  • I remember KLIV!

  • Anyone who lived in San Jose in the 60s-70's remembers KLIV, local radio station. Now and then a few break out bands came from San Jose. Count 5. Jaguairs. Who recalls the Renovations who played at the Wherehouse in San Jose from 1966-1968? Thanks Shellie for your comment.

  • Long before KFRC, KLIV was the station in the south bay. Great jocks, music, and energy. Thanks for posting this. Remember the "Surfin's Safari" and the "Norman" surveys?

  • Bobby Graham was THE British session drummer who played on all the Dave Clark Five singles and the early Kinks hits. He died last year.

  • There was a promo copy of this at George's Song Shop last time I went, but I didn't buy it. It seems like there were some white thingys on the record, but cleaning would've probably removed them. I didn't do my ""Test" which details I won't divulge, as George's as somewhat crowded that day!

  • Thanks Banghouse for your good comments. Sounds like you like the sounds of drums, too.

  • Hey allycool62, thanks for the info about this great sounding 45 and Bobbie Graham. I really like it. Skin Deep is a really unique sound for 1965. I enjoy listening to the oldies by DC5 too. "Bits and Pieces" comes to mind.
