Formed in Melbourne, The Drones are a magical but terrifying ride toward the edge of danger...sometimes chaotic and stern, sometimes melodic and joyful. Emerging as one of the best new bands in Australia, the combination of Mike Noga (drums) Fiona Kitschin (bass) Gareth Liddiard (vocals/guitar) Rui Pereira (guitar) have released the follow-up their 2005 album Wait Long By The River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By, entitled Gala Mill and released through ATP/Recordings.

Recorded in a mill on an isolated 10,000 acre farm on Tasmania's east coast, Gala Mill is an album full of extremes - moments of stark, ghostly beauty set against outbursts of the dark, intense noise for which the band is renowned. The album's sense of place is palpable - barking dogs and birdsong are heard between tracks, and the island's history and atmosphere resonate through the songs.

Infused with a rich sense of history and yet utterly modern, both thought-provoking and viscerally compelling, Gala Mill marks the welcome return of one of Australia's most intelligent, innovative and important bands.

  • they named a song after a demon that possesses people?

  • Tame Impala, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, The Drones - plenty of good Aussie bands about - not that it matters where they're from if its good!

  • love how the people look like ants and the way this video shows the world

  • Is that Gregory Peck waving his hand during the "choruses"? What movie is that from?

  • Why would you pack up your supply lines? Wouldn't you need them while attacking? God I'm an anal bastard.

  • The Drones are demigods. Give respect.

  • I think Australians get it right a lot. But the ones that do are obscure or don't have actual contracts yet. That's the real shame.

  • stuff like this only comes once in a lifetime, i'm just glad i'm around to see it.

  • There's nothing quite like it when australians get it right. Unfortunately it doesn't happen that often, but who says we can't change that? This seems to be the kickstart modern australian music needs!
