For anybody wondering, Trevor Bannister left the show because he didnt like that the show had become an ensemble instead of him being the lead, which is clear in the pilot. By this point in the series, Mr Humphries and Mrs Slocomber are the most popular characters.

@mtwini09 According to Trevor he left the show because the filming conflicted with his theater schedule. The BBC didn't give much notice when they renewed AYBS, so Trevor had already contracted for a play. BBC tried to move the filming schedule to accommodate Trevor's schedule, but it didn't work. So they had to hire a new actor as the junior.
