The dummy car (at the front) is fitted with a custom speaker that basically fills the body. The loudspeaker's drive unit is taken from a DCC supplies bass reflex speaker and fires downwards through a large hole cut in the tanks. The improvement was significant, revealing bass sounds previously inaudible with a conventional bass reflex speaker. Maximum volume was increased by around 50%. Note the difference in volume and bass in the rear power car, which still has a standard bass reflex speaker with the same sound chip and volume setting.

The sound project is my own, using recordings made by a friend of mine. It features the distinctive sound of the Marston cooler group on a user-selectable function key, which can be left on for as long as you like.

Send me a private message if you'd like these sounds in your HST.

  • Yes, try DCC Supplies.

  • The Deltic is a tough nut to crack in OO; the speakers simply cannot reproduce the necessary low frequencies. I don't have a full set of good engine sounds yet but I'm working on it. I do have a project in preparation including some great playable horns but until I get the engine sounds of the quality I need, it's on hold. The layout is approx 14 feet by 10.

  • Passengers are not cheap but make a big difference to the appearance. I put smoked acetate down the aisle so you can still see them but not right through to the other side of the coach.

  • You can see the speaker and a description of it in my other You Tube video;

    Who's sound is in the HST you're not happy with?

  • nice valenta sound did you record it if so wich hst was it??

  • @MrJezza31 The recording was made by a friend of mine and fellow ukdccsound member. I don't think he noted the unit number. It's often the case that the sounds on any given chip come from more than one loco or unit anyway, an amalgam of the best sounds from each of the recordings available.
