The Smart Grid of today is still a vision - not currently functional or 100% defined. Many organizations are paralyzed by inaction as they wait for the full promise of the Smart Grid to take shape, banking on the Smart Grid vision to drive energy conservation and cost savings. But at its core, the Smart Grid is about machine-to-machine communication. Instead of waiting for the Smart Grid to become a reality, there are pragmatic steps companies can take today to get their devices/machines "talking" - enabling them to identify, measure and control energy usage.
