ANCHOR:
Journalists cramp into a hotel room and perch on furniture to watch the premiere of a film that debuts in Beijing under top secrecy. The film, "Leaving Fear Behind", is a documentary made by a pro-Tibet group that shows what Tibetans think of the Olympics.

STORY:
The Tibetan film "Leaving Fear Behind" features a series of interviews with Tibetans talking candidly about how their culture has been trampled on and how the Olympics has
done little to improve their lives. The film also shows how the Tibetans still love the exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama fled into exile in 1959 after
an uprising against Chinese rule.

Farmer Dhondup Wangchen and his monk friend Golog Jigme were detained shortly after finishing the film. But luckily, they managed to smuggle tapes out of the country. Jean-Jacques Schwenzfeier, who describes himself as an activist,is showing the film in Beijing in order to carry out the film makers
wish.

[Jean-Jacques Schwenzfeier, Activist]:
"It is very important to be on this place, here. I mean, it wasn't possible for Tibetans to participate like they wanted so this is the minimum we could do to participate, to show our presence."

Tibetans across China's Tibetan region took to the streets
in mass riots in March, earlier this year. China accuses the Dalai Lama of stirring riots and protests in Tibetan regions in a bid to
upstage Olympic preparations. The Dalai Lama has denied the claim and says he does not oppose the Games.

Groups campaigning for an independent Tibet say the Beijing Olympics should be an opportunity to voice criticism of Chinese policy.

  • A few backgrounds there: 1.No democracy. - No Tibetan wants democracy, they just want the freedom to openly complain., 2.Dalai Lama - They want him back but china thinks he will starts riots etc.., 3. Preserve the culture - Dalai Lama back + all Chinese people should leave. ....Still I doubt the Dalai would cause that much a trouble.

  • Tibet became part of China before U.S emerged as a nation. Dala Lama had been crowned by Chinese gov. for centuries.

Under international law, a region can seek independence if it used to be a colony. But Tibet is not a colony. So Tibet can't seek independence under international law.

  • FREE TIBET!!!!!!!!!!!
