Channel Islands at War
As featured on the Yesterday Channel, the documentary series marked the 70th anniversary of the German invasion and occupation of the Channel Islands in 2010.
Written and presented John Nettles of Bergerac and Midsomer Murders fame, this emotional documentary retells the story of the five-year World War II occupation. Guernsey, Sark, Herm and Jersey were transformed into oppressive, Nazi fortresses where islanders were impoverished, hungry with their freedoms curtailed, while Alderney became the site of a notorious concentration camp where POWs were enslaved. Many were worked to their deaths.
