Theth is one of the most charming villages in Northern Albania because of its remote mountainous surroundings, traditional wooden-tiled houses and nature. The small family run Mehill Carku Guesthouse has five rooms (dormitory-style, Travels With sheila slept in a room with four other women), nine beds and three toilets. Open six months a year from April until October, all the food is organic.
To just survive, let alone take in guests, this busy family grows vegetables, picks ripe fruit from threes on their property. Has sheep for yogurt and meat. Cows for fresh milk and a henhouse full of chickens. There is no time for rest in such an isolated environment except during the long winters when the valley is completely cut off from civilization. Tough, tough life...
@692ALBANNACH Hope the family is feeling well and doing good. What Tethi needs is a good road leading to it and lots of marked hiking trails to see tourism really take off. Thanks for bringing me up to date. Best regards, Travels With Sheila
