how do you stop yourself from going too far off to the other side once you finish the roll? my coach said he could do a roll when he used to paddle but he always overshot and would fall back in the water on the other side.

Its just practice I am afraid. Do it often enough and you learn just how hard you need to roll to get vertical. As you can see in the video at the end a small support stroke often I would start paddling again as that is of course when you are most stable during the catch phase of the stroke.

Never tried in a K1 but would be possible to hand roll one if fitted with a roll strap.

Done it many a time in a DRR buts its a closed cockpit

And you just use the regular fabric splash cover? The elastic on mine is way too lose, it would come right off.

Well, soon as it gets warmer, I'll continue trying.

The South Africa "Tripper" spray covers are the best I have used on rivers excellent deck.

Nice! How did you stay in the boat? Did you strap yourself in?

Some K1's there is enough of a lip under the cockpit rim to jam your knees under to hold yourself in. I have heard of paddlers just holding them selves in by the pull bar but never seen it. Me a garden hose pipe bolted to the sides. Sits above the knee and quite loose (still need to leg drive). If I do fall in then its just a case of pushing me knees out to take up the slack. When not in use sits down on the hull out the way.

@makofenn ahhh yeah! i didnt pay close enough attention but there is the beginning of a stroke at the end of the vid. i guess timing is pretty important too hey? anyway, really impressive!
