Force network ensemble for the triangular lattice: A tale of tiles

Sampling of force networks in the force network ensemble. The animation shows both the force network representation and its reciprocal tiling. Due to local force balance and a conserved stress tensor, the total tiling area is constant, leading to a Gaussian distribution for local stresses. Our prediction based on entropy maximization is in excellent agreement with the numerically obtained local stress distribution.
