no solo artist/ singer song writer has grabbed my attention quite like Richard Ashcroft has, I just love his vocal and guitar work. Its often simple stuff but by God it's perfect along with his lyrics. Musical poetry at it's deepest and best.

@DUMDUM2007 Unfortuntely, that's the scrutiny Ashcroft faces as a solo artist. All that he does will always get compared to The Verve and those are some lofty expectations for sure. And I think those are the people that say his solo stuff is weak. It just doesn't compare at all. I admit to being unimpressed with his solo work at first, but I quickly realized that there was just no way Ashcroft would ever match or surpass the sheer brilliance of The Verve.

I loved this too, his solo work is really good. I remember feeling betrayed as it wasn't dark and nasty like The Verve, and I still believe McCabe was what truly made them amazing, but you grow up and realise there is more to life and I have to say Ashcroft eclipses all the other modern songwriters, even if it does sound like he's happy and content!

annoys me when people say ashcrofts solo stuff is weak..alone with everybody is one of the best singer-songwriter type albums for years...ashcroft always gets over looked coz he's a bit too different for people.
