Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch support both Wi-Fi and cell tower-based location finding. But the Wi-Fi, though more precise, is far less accurate! Watch me travel instantly from Ohio to Massachusetts!
ghostrider273: they actually allow the locating process with only one wifi access point beacon... but the radius will be around 200m, if you have 3 or more wifi beacons available the radius will be around 100m.... the smaller the radius, the more data skyhook has used to locate you...!
that;s why cell phone triangulation normally has a radius of 2000m up to 5000m, 1.5miles up to 3 miles... that way one can easily recongize what system was actually used to locate yourself!
actually this only happens if there's only one wifi beacon available to the iphone/cell phone/notebook while doing a location positioning... if there's more than one wifi router signal around skyhooks server will "self heal" and add new geolocation for the router... but if your in a rural setting the chances of that happening are VERY slim... the system needs the other wifi beacons to recognize that the wifi router at question actually has moved and needs a new geolocation....
good flaw pointed out...im kinda doing research into wps using skyhook'sdk..its weird though that you got that result because according to their patent documentation...the positioning is based on a triangulation of 3 or more wifi hotspots...so even if you moved your router...it should have some error checking built in...still..pretty neat observation !

you need to go to skyhooks website and use the "submit an access point" feature to move your wifi router manually...
