This is the fifth episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000: episode K05. It aired on KTMA on December 11, 1988. Most notable about this episode is the fact that Joel is watching the movie by himself. Trace Beaulieu was apparently out of town (hence the frozen Crow) and Servo is mysteriously in the host segments but not in the theater. In my opinion, Joel still does a pretty good job riffing the movie. Enjoy this little piece of MSTory.

  • I'm ceartainly glad they did a white screen effect later in the series when they were filming the theater segments; the sillohettes cearainly dissapeared alot.

  • @jjordan89481 Unless you were alive and living in the Twin Cities in 1988 (and had a penchant for watching locally-produced programs) you would have never seen these episodes.

  • good lord, joel's vocals on "in the not too distant future, next sunday a.d." are SO off key. still love this though. very interesting to see the show's beginnings...

  • There's nothing more tragic than a war in an Eskimo village.

  • wow they really improved over the years. Guess I was just to young at the time to realize it.

  • @ErnieandBert1 Ya clay was gone

  • is this from the first season? i've only seen a couple w/ joel and that has been here on youtube.

  • Fantastic quality for a KTMA episode.

  • Is Josh doing Crow here?

  • According to the MST wiki, the KTMA series was made with a budget of $250 per episode. $50 of this was reserved for set design alone. They also did adlibs for the riffs instead of pre-writing material. If you notice there are moments when everyone will talk over each other, riffing at the same time.

I'm glad they ironed out the format too, but its also good to see that almost nothing of the original premise was changed.
