Gene Pitney - Somewhere in the country 1968

Gene Francis Alan Pitney (February 17, 1940 -- April 5, 2006) was an American singer and songwriter

Nobody wants her she's nobody's child
Nobody seems to care
Isn't it funny now that she needs someone
There's nobody there

Mum and Dad have it all arranged
She's leaving on the morning train
For Aunt Nora's house (so sad)
Somewhere in the Country

The morning paper social page
Declined to take a stand
On Aunt Nora's house
Somewhere in the Country

She was a quiet girl
I really didn't know her that well
She was a friendly girl
I heard that but I'm not one to tell
Such a shame, who's to blame?
It's so sad

Doesn't Daddy care at all?
Can he hear baby cry?
At Aunt Nora's house
Somewhere in the Country

She was an only child
But it was always gifts they gave
She was a lonely child
But love was all the poor girl craved
Such a shame, who's to blame?

It's so sad (so sad)
Somewhere in the Country (Somewhere in the Country)
It's so sad (so sad)
Somewhere in the Country (Somewhere in the Country)

(So sad) Nobody's child (child)
Somewhere in the country

(So sad) Nobody's child (child)
Somewhere in the country

(So sad) Nobody's child (child)
Somewhere in the country

(So sad) Nobody's child (child)
Somewhere in the country

(So sad) Nobody's child (child)

  • @goneatlast Thanks for letting me know.

  • @gotch09 This is from Gene's US lp "Heartbreaker" (1968). This song was released in UK and Europe as a single. It reached #19 in the UK in March, 1967

  • Miss you Gene

  • Binson Echorech or Dynacord echo on the voice.

  • I've been looking at Gene's videos for the last hour! I know every word to every one of his songs! I miss him so much!! Nothing like him since!

  • what a golden voice. Thanks for posting this.

  • Did he do this at the same time he sang "She's a Heartbreaker"? It seemes like EVERYONE made an appearance on "Beat Club"...

  • Fabulous. Should be up there with 24 hours... Backstage....Something hold Heart.//

    One of his best.

Sadly missed. Saw him many times - not only talented song writer, distictive singer .... could have taken him home after show for nothing else but a cuddle!!

    Noone else like him.

  • Is this a more obscure song? I thought I knew all of Genes greatest hits.

  • Miss you Gene! Your songs were the songs of my teen years.
