Making Theater is a podcast and videocast for those who work in theater form onstage to behind the scenes. This week, we explore the International Phonetic Alphabet vowel chart, including all of the vowel sounds and their symbols used in Standard American Stage Speech. In this first part, we will focus on preparing to speak and how the actor's voice must do much more than sound "good." The actor must find a way to effectively and truthfully release a free, articulate sound in relationship with a scene partner.

  • Nope, and in fact many training programs don't teach it. It helps with dialects and fixing some focal habits that need addressing. Where are you acting now?
