Northwest Ohio is known for its green energy companies.

The region was named as a solar energy hub to create jobs by Gov. Ted Strickland during a visit to the University of Toledo on Wednesday.

Gov. Strickland said the hub will focus on promoting economic development by attracting new businesses in the solar industry. The partners include the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, and several other area colleges that will gelp the solar industry of Ohio continue to grow.

"Northwest Ohio has everything that's needed to attract and support clusters of connected solar businesses and new investments and while doing so to

nurture on going and breakthrough research," the governor said.

Companies like Willard and Kelsey, First Solar and Xunlight will make the greater Toledo area the world center for solar power.
