The city of Buffalo literally froze in its tracks on Nov. 20th, 2000. Though not a blizzard by definition, more snow fell in 24 hours than in the city's history. So what do you do if you're stuck at work with a video camera? Exactly what you see here!

The only two kinds of businesses still open downtown were food services and taverns. Doors were opened to anyone who needed warmth. Buffalo once again shined as the "City of Good Neighbors".

We found out later that the two news stations we walked by had NO live footage of the downtown snowfall because ALL of their cameramen were stranded outside the city limits. Yes that means we missed two opportunities to sell the tape for beer money. DOH!

  • What I remember most about this storm: people wandering the streets having had to abandon their cars...knocking on door...and those doors being opened to them. Buffalo is a truly special city, truly a city of "good neighbors!"

  • @evildeaddrew I was going to say the snow was falling pretty hard at 3:15pm. At 11pm it finished..

  • What was normally a 20 minute ride home from work turned into an three hour journey from hell for my mother. Thank God she had a Pathfinder at the time...!

  • I am gona finish my story :). We somehow got to Niagarafalls Blvd and there... were all kinda abandoned vehicles, buses, cars...we were in a small van with atleast 10 ppl in there. I remember we sitting tight on NF Blvd for about 3 hours. I was thinking of walking home but what bout the cold/?it was windy like hell. 6:44 looks more like it. :) That night when I reached home at around midnite a brrrroooom got my attention. i peaked thru the kitchen window to see 3 snow-wheelers on Main Street :).

  • Wow..i was rite there in North Campus with my friends stuck in the library waiting for the snow to stop !!!! It actually got even worse and then we decided we should go find our vehicle. Luckily I had my 240sx parked at home at Lebrun 1 South Campus. When we walked to the parking lot it was so baddd, all the cars were beneath atleast 5-10 feet of snow...at 2:04 what you see is maybe 2% of what actually was...this footage must have been atleast sometime the following week. it was way worse :)

  • 1:32 that's a lie it was 3:15 A.M. at 3:15 P.M.

  • i was at work. in a daycare. with 15 cold, hungry, bratty kids. why couldn't i be in a bar? oh yeah, bc i was 18... fml.

  • 6 hours to drive 7 miles I left my car on Niagara street and walked. I moved from Buffalo awhile back.

  • I feel like this is the "Snowpocolyps" prequel to Cloverfield.

  • DUDE! With all the cars in the road like that it would have been an awesome opportunity to film some survival horror film.
