In Sept 1914, HMS Pathfinder became the first ship to be sunk by a torpedo fired from a submarine. The wreck lies in 65m of water, 12miles off the coast.

  • Again thank you my Grandfather Master at Arms Richard E Magee was lost on HMS Pathfinder 15-50 hours Saturday 5th September 1914 I hope on 5th September 2014 a service can be held above her as she was the first ship lost by a torpedo

  • Thanks you so much for posting this. I hope the wreck in left as a memorial to those lost.

    My Great Uncle was Charles Whiting was Ships Corporal First Class. He died on The Pathfinder. His Brother Albert Whiting was killed 5 months later on 1st January 1915 on HMS Formidible.

    Both Long serving seaman who joined the Royal Navy around 1900.

  • Thanks for posting this, my great uncle was one of only 12 who survived the attack.
