  • I'm a big fan of the snap transition. "back to my face!" Awesome.

  • @ttgtaylor Haha, thanks!

  • @DrumWiiSk8, I sell Rhoda and Quo Vadis, so of course I'm fans of those. Other ones I've heard pretty good things about are Leuchtturm, Apica, Black 'n Red, Midori, and Whitelines.

  • I'm not sure, I'm only familiar with the ruled notebook. Sorry :(

  • awesome review...i'm going to take a look at your store right now to see what you sell. Thanks for the post...i have a bunch of moleskine notebooks but don't use my fountain pens with them unless it's noodler's black ink (which still comes out kind of broad on that paper). I stopped using the paper and now I'm going to try out Rhodia books...

  • I hear a lot of complaints about the Moleskine paper. They're mainly for pencils and ballpoints, not fountains. The Rhodia is much, much better paper. If you have a good paper you can use ANY ink on it with no worries.

  • Who was the manufacture and what color of ink was that?

  • My Moleskine feathers as well. I have recently acquired some nice pens and wpuld like to purchase some new paper to get the most out of the quality of the pen and try some new inks. Probably looking at Rhodia and Leuchtturm.

  • is Moleskine Volant plain Paper Generally Good quality for a fine fountain pen ?? Please coz i just order a bunch and i dont want them to look like that ;(

  • I would guess that most people who use blank moleskines are like me and use them as illustrated jounals whilst travelling and have moved on from the ruled versions. If I were writing a letter or something which was important of course I would use better paper. But the Moleskine as it stands is a very handy size for the pocket or the camera bag/holdall has enough pages to ensure I don't run out and I've never had one fall apart on me. Plus of course it's cheap!

  • I also have used a variety of notebooks and settled on the Moleskine. The ruled Moleskine has all the problems you outline. I don't use them. But the blank version whilst still not the smoothest does not suffer from the same faults. I should say that I also sketch in my notebooks, sometimes pencil, or pen but mostly watercolour. The Moleskine Sketch book is fine for sketching but almost impossible to write in with a fountain pen!

  • I liked the review and what you say about paper weights, grain and finish is true. However thats not the whole story. I have used a fountain pen for nearly 50 years, I just don't get on with rollerballs and ballpoints. I own Watermans, Parkers, Conway Stewarts and my two every day pens in constant use are a Mont Blanc Boheme(large) and a Pelikan 805. The Pelikan is by far the smoothest and most reliable pen I have come across. Mypreferred ink is Pelikan 4001 or Noodlers.
