Close up shot of a couple fie spinners, showing off their skills post-burn. Being able to sit down in the field after the culmination of the pony burn and watch these performance artists, many of whom came from up & down the entire region, step up in turn to showcase their skills, utilizing the fire prop of their choice and then just tearing it up for the onlookers & other performers... it's one of my absolute favorite parts of the entire event. Both men & women use fire props of all sorts including hula-hoops, fans, swords, staffs, devil sticks and poi, (which seems to me, to be the most prevalent, especially amongst the men). As much as I've enjoyed learning what I have of contact juggling over the past 5 months, (and I most *certainly* plan on honing my current moves, learning new ones & further developing my skills) I am just chomping at the bit to get my hands on a set of poi & start practicing. The ones I have my eye on are ball-chain poi with leather, double finger loops & come with soft, stroboscopic, multicolored glow ball heads that can be removed & swapped out for "cathedral style" wick heads for when you're ready to make the leap to fire.
