I have an EndFedz, and I'm thinking of getting the QRP 10/20/40 model. My plans are to get a Jackite pole. Do you see any advantage to getting the platinum pole over the regular one? I'm wondering how some 7 Ah SLABs would do if I turned my power on my 450 down to 5-10 watts. I know people do that with the 857. I'm a bit tight on cash flow to buy a more expensive battery. Right now, I run my EndFedz primarily as a sloper. Any suggestions?
Hello Steve! I'm not 100% certain, but my understanding is that the Platinum poles have more flex therefore may not stay as vertical as the original model (which is what I use) when used as an antenna support. You might want to check with the Jackite folks on that.
As far as using your 450, I say get out there with what you can afford now and see what happens; later on you can add to what you have. In the meantime you'll have fun and learn a thing or two. 73 de VE3TWM!
Thank you very much, Barry. I'd be interested in hearing how much operating time you get from your 17Ah battery and what type of antenna you use while portable. It would be great to see a video of you operating portable!
Nice video. I also use my FT-897D in a park not far from my house. I use a 17 ah battery and run either 5 or 40 watts out. Great little, "One Radio Do All" package.
