russttu: your logic sounds solid and it would be if the numbers weren't already out. The press has documented that in the 5 agreements this powerful little farmworker organization from Florida has negotiated with (not the ranchers but) the large volume purchasers (big brands like Taco Bell, Subway, Burger King), it cost on average $250,000 to increase the pay of these tomato pickers at the bottom of the supply chain by 75%. 250K - that's it! per purchaser/firm. Win-win & no one's losin a job

Eric,
I applaud you for advocating for better working conditions for these people, but you do realize that your overall food goals of promoting food that is organic, local and not from a fast food retailer is in direct conflict with the ability to keep and pay these workers. The more expensive the food, the less is purchased and the fewer workers are needed to grow it. You basically advocating for the firing of the very workers your claiming to support.
