Where did Occupy Wall Street start? Up north! Canada's AdBusters made the initial call for protesters to converge on Wall Street and demand campaign finance reforms.

However, the movement failed to catch fire until the hacker group Anonymous took notice.

The protests gained momentum, attracting some unlikely bedfellows in the process.

In the past, liberal activists focused on clearly defined causes. Occupy Wall Street's muddled approach could compromise the movement's effectiveness.

The rallying cry for the movement is "We are the 99%". But compared to most of the world, the protesters are still very privileged.

Nevertheless, the Occupy Wall Street movement continues to gather steam. Will it become the Tea Party of the left?

Whew that was a long list

  • Not gonna lie, starving Africans does make their "we are the 99%" slogan look pretty silly. But I don't think the whole "someone else in the world has it worse then you, so man the fuck up" is a very good argument.

It'd be like if you told a severe paraplegic to stop whining and be grateful that they aren't dead. It just gets a little redundant down the line.

  • @TheMarksmenCat Sounds like someone needs to take a nap!

  • @Frohstar all you OWS idiots want is free handouts. Just because someone is richer than you doesn't mean you you should get any of his money because you're just a parasitic lazy asshole, but that doesn't get redundant down the line huh?

  • this animation is so stupid! the last 5 seconds made me want to kill someone

  • Occupy Wall Street wants the government to be able to steal money from the taxpayers, but to give this money to them and their pet causes rather than to the big banks.

Join the Tea Party, which fights for liberty and limited government. America grew strong and prosperous due to its people having property rights, freedom, and opportunity, not a government that picked losers and winners or stole from the productive to give to the unproductive.

  • @Melki: I think OWS is more about changing the entire system. But if you want some specific things that need to be done here are a few suggestions from me.

    1. Reinstate Glass-Steagall

    2. Force all banks to mark their assets to market. This means repealing FAS157

    3. No more tax funded bailouts of instituations that are failing. Let them go thru bankruptsy.

  • @ClearSmashDrop but what's the demand though... how will anyone satisfy occupy wallstreet movement... seems like they're just out there enjoying themselves. Propose a good idea please!

  • @koahzvika That is probably true.

  • Normally I find NWA take on American politics to be pretty astute. I think in this case they are missing the mark a little. OWS is disjointed to be sure. But its the undercurrent thats producing the protest. Left or Right most Americans are losing ground and they sense a level of injustice at the bailouts of the banks. I think thats whats generating support for OWS.
