True Hamlet is mean to Ophelia, but then again he is obssessed with the thought of revenge by killing his uncle who killed his father and I do belive he did not want to be mean to her. He did suspect that they were being watched and did as he thought was best. After all, he is acting as if he's mad so that no one will suspect what he is planing.
