  • There are a wide variety of ways to dance the sword, and "slow and stately" has a much a tradition and history as "fired up and stomping".

We will have the "sacrifice" when we perform dances with Washington Revels as part of their mummers play. We chose to do our mummers play as part of a border dance instead of a sword.

  • same here, when we perform it, someone goes in the middle, we draw, they die, and then rise again like a flower in the spring for the finale!

  • where is the victim? When we do it, one of our team to go into the middle and et her to pretend to die :)

  • I am part of the Malvern Swordsmen morris team, we do it a lot faster, and stamp a lot :) lovely dance

  • What's the tune? It sounds very familiar, but I can't place it...

  • Sorry to criticise but it all seems a little half-hearted. The sword dance is usually done with much more verve, lots of stamping, leaping (not hopping) and generally a bit more "mumm". Hope they can get in enough practise to be able to do it as it should be done ! Thanks for posting it.
