The Toronto Argonauts defeated the Edmonton Eskimos 30-22 in an August 1982 game at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto. The game was seen as the first solid evidence that the Argos and their new run-and-shoot offence were for real after a decade in the wilderness. The Eskimos were four-time Grey Cup champions (and would go on to win their fifth in a row later that year) and featured the great Warren Moon at quarterback. Toronto was led by quarterback Condredge Holloway, receiver Terry Greer and, in this game, a superb performance by their defensive line.

  • ESPN would carry CFL games in the USA back in 1982 ?? awesome

too bad ESPN can't carry CFL games in the states now, they would rather waste time and money on crap like Nascar and poker.

  • warren moon was one hell of a quarterback in his prime.

  • CONGRATS TO TONY STEWART FOR NO. 3.

  • DONT TALK SH** ABOUT NASCAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Real football , Fuck the NFL

  • Eskimos vs Argonauts. just like Oilers @ Maple Leafs.

  • Big game for both teams in front of a big crowd

  • @FischerFan Thanks for telling me this. I, myself, have never been to an Argos game outside of Toronto (unless you count the 1987 Grey Cup game against the Eskimos out in Vancouver).

For the record, I started following the CFL back in 1980 (in which the Argos defeated the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg in July of that year). After that, the Argos did not win another game at Winnipeg (now Canad Inns) Stadium until the 1987 CFL East Final.

    Likewise, R.I.P. Ron Lancaster.

  • @DaveinNorthYork That's interesting.

I went to the game in Winnipeg that year in which the Bombers defeated the Argonauts 32-16! I remember after the game I went down to where the entrance was to the visiting team's dressing room.

I remember some of the Argos' players, including punter Hank Ilesic, looking exhausted and dejected after the loss; but man, those clean-cut road white unis with the sky and navy trim sure looked sharp!

  • @FischerFan I actually remember that particular Argos game off-hand. I believe that particular game was played on Thanksgiving weekend that year (on Sunday, October 9, 1983).

For the record, I went to the Argos last home game in 1983 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (on Saturday, November 5, 1983). Not only did the Argos defeat the Bombers 33-9 in that game, but, man, was it also ever so cold outside that particular day as well.

As for the uniform part, I totally agree with you here.

  • @DaveinNorthYork I remember the following season when the two teams met in Toronto. Condredge Holloway hit Terry Greer for a long touchdown in a low-scoring Argonauts win. I believe it was 19-15.

Dear Argos: Please, bring back those uniforms!!!

  • @continentalrcinglg

I'll watch the World Strongest man if there is Absolutely No live sports on at the moment.

I can't stomach Nascrap and poker.

I miss the Great Outdoor Games. and Cheap Seats.
