This is Sweet Pea. I named her. I found her on my home from Walmart. I drove by and knew what I saw but tried to tell myself 'You did not see that.' Everytime I check on a dog on these rural roads, they end being healthy farm dogs that run or walk away. But I didn't get far before I turned around and went to check on her. I wouldn't sleep easy if I didn't. Sweet Pea looked up from her little bag of garbage, tail tucked so far it was plastered against her belly, but it wagged. Right there she was trusting and friendly and pretty much was happy to go anywhere I took her, anywhere but on the side of road, starving, hurting, cold, and so many cars going by and not bothering to stop. Do you they they said the same in their heads? 'I didn't see that. I did not see that.' I even tried to wave people down because I had my own dogs in my car and a trunk full of groceries, but no one stopped.
Now Sweet Pea is winning every heart she comes across at Green Hills Animal Shelter in Trenton Mo. Vet says she looks like she's been in fights, but she doesn't show any dog aggression, so she might have been a bait dog. She's bb's under her skin, all sorts of wounds in different stages of healing. I don't think I even want to know what she went through before I found her. I just want her to get healthy and find a home where she will be thoroughly spoiled rotten.
