Gossip

I was reading a very interesting article about gossips.
Of course the gossip is something very dangerous. But at the same time it is something
that locate us in this world. Somehow we can establish comparisons and we dont feel
lost. So I'd like to hear your opinion on gossips.

I believe gossip leads to the dangerous notion that we are somehow 'superior' to those we gossip about. Here's the rub: The truth does not need one to believe in it in order to be so- lies, hearsay, conjecture etc. ALWAYS need someone to believe in it in order for it to be so. I know it is very tempting to talk behind someone's back and to boost our own pride or ego. My thoughts on gossip- resist the urge.

in romania we have a saying that goes something like this: " people's mouth can only be shut by dust", meaning: as long as they are alive, ppl will never stop gossipping, so why should one care?

Gossip/ fofoca, it's in my opinion, the "traditional" way of societies to CRITISIZE others. In a way, a form of imposing "values", "conditions", related to ones believes, etc...Also,a weapon of destruction, most of the times. Not a very positive way to live life, is it? Better focus on yourself, create, learn, and let others be judged by their OWN mistakes, if so.

A friend long ago told me we don't talk about people we don't care about! Partially true. Gossip in its broadest sense includes good comments- which when repeated tend to make us all happier and elevate us. Criticism is often not useful in personal relations, but useful in censuring those in power to the degree they care anything about what the public thinks. However, I have noticed there is not much shame from those who "legally" rob us of our money. An eternal truth.

I generally think it's unnecessary and says more about the people 'gossiping' than the person that they 'gossip' about. I personally try to not speak badly about people.
