To answer your question, leftover materials are often cut up and saved as colour samples which are then mailed out to interested potential buyers who, I assume, treasure them beyond all reason and will eventually will them to their descendants as invaluable heirlooms.
Well, either that or they just throw them away... ;-)

wow....i also own a 3 piece tempus set....just kick, snare and floor tom in carbon fibre...
im liking the hemp snare tho!! is it a bit dryer that the CF snare??
