  • If it weren't for Lee Rocker, rockabilly bass would be a dead art form. EVERY single upright slap guy cites this guy as their hero, and he deserves more praise than he gets. You orchestra guys always rag on "technique", but when you amplify an upright bass to this volume, your left hand does double duty of playing the notes, and keeping the other strings from vibrating and feeding back. At least the rockabilly guys know what they're playing, not just say things like "I'm in position one"...

  • Great!

  • @JenningsfaninOK I'm an upright bassist in the orchestra and I will agree that slap bass is as respectable a technique as any other, HOWEVER, you got just about everything else wrong. Knowing the positions is important, but we do have to read music, which means we do in fact know every note of what we're playing. As for the left hand double duty thing, keeping the strings from vibrating has more to do with controlling the right hand, and stopping excess vibration is easier than with an electric

  • once our high school went to this philharmonic orchestra gig and until main bassist did some nice slap licks (it was an educational gig - evolution of modern music i think), everyone was dozing away in their chairs

  • lee Rocker is Bad Ass sick!!!!!

  • One of the best sounds ever, i love it. Big stray cats fan too

  • @JenningsfaninOK i wish i could like your comment twice!!!!!!!!!!

  • Damn imma do that in Orchestra!

  • plz help me!

i've seen a band on tv recently. consists of a rhythm guitarist, double bass and a lead guitarist.3 members. i don't know what year was that show. well the lead guitarist was silver haired, old. and the double bass player had mustache and wore glasses (he played with his fingers).

plz help me! what is the name of that band???!

  • He uses his third finger in regular positions (non thumb position). That is a BIG no-no in the classical realm!

I guess he's not exactly peforming Dittersdorph or even Koussevitsky for that matter...

    Still it sounds awesome.

  • i think this is a case of him knowing what the people in the room wanted to hear.
