Well as far as money goes, Louisiana is broke and has been for the better part of 20-something years. How is it irrational to serve the best interests of his parish? Perhaps Jefferson parish didn't have the resources to take in an care for (temporarily) that many evacuees. There were some parishes that didn't, which is why lots of them said no.

Bayouchick, you can;t have it both ways. You can't TAKE FREE MONEY that people gave because they put aside their petty pride and saw people in need and then justify the actions of a Sherriff who DID NOT put aside his petty pride and refused HELPING people in need. So you can write that check to US FEDERAL GOVT please. Because, as far as Sherriff Lee was concerned, helping people in the greatest hour of need is not what a GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL is supposed to do. Spare me your EXCUSES.

Bayou, the only RATIONAL THING that a SERVANT OF THE PEOPLE should be doing is SAVING LIVES and not assuming people looking to have their life spared are LOOTERS and not worthy of help. Jefferson Parrish is not just defending itself, it receives plenty of money from the FEDERAL GOVT and the Sheriff needed to think more of PEOPLE than of GOVT SPONSORED PROPERTY. Again, your logic is warped. Your own PARRISH received massive amounts of govt funding after Katrina. I want it back.

And one more point I'm going to add - why expect Lee to do Nagin's job and Orleans Parish Sheriff's job for them?? If anything it showed the world how inept New Orleans' leadership was. If anything Lee was doing the best he could in dire circumstances when New Orleans was going buck wild, some cops went on a looting spree and Nagin was wasting all his damn time doing interviews. If Nagin and the rest of the Orleans parish gov't had their shit straight Lee wouldn't have factored in at all!

Bayou, when there are floods, borders become IRRELEVANT. Hurricanes don't care that there are borders and "jurisdictions" and neither should so-called government employees. If the government had been spending money on building it's infrastructure instead of fighting illegal wars and spending the last 30 years arguing AGAINST the need to collect adequate taxes, then the LEVEES would not have gave way. SPARE ME, you can tell a lot about a perso's humanity in a crisis. Sheriff LEE failed that test.

Well I would agree Republicans are a bunch of morons that I assume neither of us voted for, I agre with your analysis on them. But that doesn't mean everyone but Lee had no responsibility. No matter what hand they had been dealt, there was no excuse for NEW ORLEANS' INEPT leadership to abandon their people. Unfair to expect Lee to work miracles while letting New Orleans crooks off the hook. Whatever the feds gave them they have squandered anyway

I meant whatever funds New Orleans was given by the feds to improve Levees, they misused more often than not.

So bayouchick, you can kindly give back all the money that your region received because it was not in the federal govt's BEST INTEREST (according to Sheriff Lee's principles) to help those who need to learn to help themselves even in a time of DISASTER. Just another apologists who doesn't think through what they are saying.

You don't have to get all confrontational. If you want to rant and rave you picked the wrong person. I'm not going back and forth. Anyway I paid enough in taxes back when I lived in the USA, so glad I'm out. Spare me your crap. I worked in one of the evacuee shelters in Shreveport and donated. But I also saw the chaos in New Orleans caused not only by the flood but by people as well. What was Lee's statement to the press about why he refused them entrance?Lots of parishes didn't have room
