  • It's the greatness of simple ease. Charm, lightness, seriousness, respect for characters, casual glancing off tragedy (Alexandre's death), the joy of group creation, the capturing of transient pleasure (the crew will go its separate ways after the shoot has concluded) and the intensity of relations mirroring the intensity of the creative experience of filmmaking. Yes, it's great, but it's a lighthearted greatness.

  • C'est Truffaut, le grand Truffaut.

I just came across your words. Though American, this has haunted me since my youth. Much like Renoir, Truffault is the embodiment of the dream of a humane world.

  • précision de synchronisme, l'instinct, l'anticipation,

  • @fedtho Thank you! I was probably lazy at that time.

  • @MrCharming123 I have a hard time believing that information isn't easily available, but the music is by George Delerue, who worked for the films of the french Nouvelle Vague (New Wave, late 60's and 70's) as well as for Hollywood - a humble craftsman with incredible instincts for what will enhance a movie.

  • I've been brought up in a French speaking surrounding AND always been in love with the Nouvelle Vague.

I have to admit I'm always baffled to discover that people from countries so different and not speaking French (which appears to me to define at least this one movie so strongly) express exactly the same feelings, the passion, the love I have for "La nuit américaine"!

It moves me deeply to know that a film seemingly so typically french has a universal power - that we all share this love.

    Cheers!
