I revisited this because it's rerun June 23, 2011 on Maoliworld. This issue resurfaced because the Hawaii Superferry is up for sale. However, I also took time to read the other comments too. Linda Lingle did more than--she deepened the pockets of the military and minority 8(a) contracts making sure that here supporters got payed well for their populace support. With back pockets filled, these UXO LLC's are horrendously rich and embedded into the native Hawaiian culture with avatar identities.

The former Governor Ariyoshi brought the EIS to frontline in the argument which pointed to the Governor and her corporate-military gain. I was on the frontline in Maui protesting,and came away with thank the universe 'Haole's' connected to the land and sea because they were the true fighters behind 'stopping the ferry'. We Na Kanaka's was just a go with,but an important one. It was nice to connect with the ole' gang from the 'Stop the Bombing' years on 'O Kanaloa Kohe Malamalama Mahalo Na Akua

Its not the company's fault at all they were doing what they were told to do and me, you, and everyone in Hawaii knows who's really to blame.
Who Exempted the company from an EIS in the 1st place?
Who gave the company bad advice?
Who forced for an illegal special legislation so that it can run?
Who signed the illegal bill into law?
The answer is very obvious. The person who really killed the badly needed Superferry was of course LINDA LINGLE!

hind sight is always 20/20 vision - as this so eloquently prooves.
cheating the system is still cheating! and thus profits over people will always yeild the same unsuccessful results.
Perhaps we can use this as an example of what does NOT work and apply it to future projects which the foreign military investors et al are currently purposing.

Yet again, the superferry could have served as a useful transportation tool. They should have really obeyed the laws.
