Fastest Elevator in Minecraft

NOTE: In Minecraft 1.2, LADDERS WORK AGAIN! In Minecraft 1.1, ladders stopped working temporarily, but they've added the ladder hitboxes back and now they'll hold up the minecarts.

There is a friendly competition of people claiming to have the fastest minecraft elevator, but this simple and easy to build minecart elevator is definitely the fastest... and it doesnt require a ton of redstone or pistons like the other designs out there.

FYI: You can also use boats in place of the minecarts, but they're more fragile, and I think the minecarts look better. :)

This elevator will go from the bedrock floor to the sky ceiling in about
6 seconds, compared to piston elevators which take 12-13 seconds.

I've heard that many people have made an elevator with a similar design. After searching around, I think kindofdoon or roobitz used this concept first.

This doesn't work in SMP in 1.2.3, there is a bug that if you place a minecart and disconnect, you can't get in or pick up the minecart until you move it several spaces either east or west. I built this elevator, only to have a giant mess when I reconnected that will be difficult to clean up.

Sethbling has a tnt elevator that does it in two seconds. MUAHAHAHA

You should use boats though, if your playing survival or hardcore, you need to use your iron very resoursefuly, and you can pretty much find wood everywhere

i say use a boat why 1. iron i harder to get in survival 2. you dont need to make a rail track
