This wonderful flying boat is now on display at Solent Sky Museum in Southampton, Hampshire, southern UK. You can walk through it, and even request a visit to the flight deck and get a talk about it and its fascinating history. I was there recently and it is well worth a visit.

The Sunderlands used to take off from Rose Bay (Sydney) and fly directly over the top of HMAS Penguin on the north short. Penguin was a navy hospital and whilst recouperating I remember them coming over the top at chimney top height and the noise was just incredible - but what a picture they were skimming over the water. I remember them well - fantastic to say the least.

I remember this doco - wasn't it called "The Sunderlands - The Boats That Flew"?

Does anyone know if the hostesses on these flights were specifically employed to work on the Flying Boats, or if they were mainline Ansett crew?

Thanks for the video. This is definitely from the south side of the harbour and maybe between Shark Island and Point Piper and apart from the Sandringham a piece of harbour history. Shark Is 1:56, Clifton Gardens 1:58, seaplane patrol boat 2:03, Harbour ferry 2:07 (South Steyne perhaps - steam powered), Bradleys Head 2:17 (no HMAS Sydney mast - away for repairs?), Aircraft carrier 2:18 (Sydney or Melbourne), Warringah Expway 2:20 (road cutting on hill), Harbour Bridge/Fort Denison 2:07.

Filmed from the north shore of Sydney Harbour NSW Australia.
Probably from the Clifton Gardens Area.
The take offs always stopped the harbour traffic even if the water Police did not
Fantastic sound even from on shore.
Are you sure that this is an actual Sunderland, and not another variant of Short's commercial flying boats? It looks most unlike any Sunderland that I have seen.
(My uncle used to fly Sunderlands during WW2)
