The main reason for the German victory was neither superior weaponry nor superior logistics. The French Chassepot rifle had a far longer range and shot more precisely than the older Prussian Zündnadelgewehr. Only in terms of artillery the German arms were better. Speaking of logistics one should keep in mind that the war was fought in France, so the French task was tremendously easier that the German one.
The main reason for the German success were the General staff and the mission tactics.

I really appreciate this documentary. It's so hard to find any good information on the Franco-Prussian war. It seems to be largely overlooked here in the U.S; however, its importance should not be undermined.
