Steam Goods Train At Downpatrick

A special filming charter for the BBC series 'Who Do You Think You Are' with Graham Norton required the Downpatrick & County Down Railway to lay on a goods train hauled by a steam loco - the first time since the 60s or 50s in Ireland. The episode the train was hired for, with Graham Norton, will air on the 11th October 2007.

Only the road bridge and the base of the water tower. Even the platforms have been filled in.

I watched that program, very good but there wasnt a train in sight, let alone a steam hauled freight! any idea what happened?

They cut out that section of Graham's family. It was his great-grandfather who worked on the GNRI. Unfortunately despite filming that section of the family it got dropped in the edit!! We only found out the day before that it wasn't going to air. However I do have the rushes from them on DVD and the production company is hopeful that it might appear as a DVD extra. They're beautiful shots and it would be a shame for no-one to see them.

Anybody remember the train at ranks flour mill in glasnevin dublin.had its own siding beside the canel,there was also two sunken river barges below the wall beside the mill there.last time I was there was way back mid 70s.I miss that part of auld dublin.
