This cab ride sums up the chaos of Mumbai streets pretty well. From people everywhere, to trucks, to piles of dirt, construction, motorbikes, cows, you name it, you have to swerve around it. We drove through the red light district to a popular clothing store called Sheetal. If you care, watch for the "Olympia Restaurant", followed later by the "New Olympia Restaurant", followed later by my personal favorite, the "Novelty Chemist" shop.

  • WOW anyway, thanx for the free ride, quite amazing. btw, did most natives speak English?

  • Anybody you might interact with commonly will speak very good English for the most part. If you stray off the beaten path, which I like to do, then you go right back to hand signals and smiles.

  • Indians are some of the most beautiful people on this earth. Half of the people making idiotic comments don't know a thing about the Hindu culture.

  • Agreed. And I should point out that, although I have allowed a free public discourse here, I do not agree with some of the comments being made. Clearly there are many cultural and socio-political issues at play in places where Indians have immigrated to. And there are certainly a lot of criticisms that can be applied to India, but I strongly feel that Indians in India are largely good hearted people just trying to make their way in the world. Which, for them, is often extremely hard.

  • Wow. You've driven thru some strange-ass places man! Dare I ask how you ended up driving thru Kamathipura (the red-light area)? ;)

  • It was on the way to the store we were going to. I needed a suit for a wedding and we were headed to Sheetal. The Red Light District was just a co-incidence. Honest. I swear.

  • It seems that the people walking get to places faster than the people who are driving in the city of Mumbai. Since I love to exercise, I'd most probably be the one walking. ~ LOL ~
