Melissa Maker, cleaning expert, shows Lucy how to clean her grout with great whitening and brightening tricks. Tile grout can can get dirty and dull, so here we learn how to combat that! You can use this method for cleaning grout in bathrooms, kitchens, hallways etc. Works every time and the results are awesome.

Don't mind my head being cut off for part of the video, I didn't go to film school and am not looking to win an Oscar for best filming. Just trying to pass on good info to you!

Enjoy :D

Lucy asked: How can I clean my stained grout?

Answer:

What you need-
1) Grimy grout
2) Spray bottle with water
3) Cleaning toothbrush
4) Cotton cloth
5) Lemon (optional)

Spray the grout line with water and apply baking soda to create a sort of paste. Let it sit for 15 minutes then re-spray the area with water. Scrub using a cleaning toothbrush until the grout looks clean and wipe away any residue using a cotton cloth. To keep your grout looking clean, visit your local home store and purchase grout sealant to help keep your grout cleaner, longer.

Did you know? Grout, like your skin, has pores. As a result, it absorbs everything. Try to avoid using dirty mop water to prevent your grout lines from discoloring.

**BONUS TIP**

For really dirty grout:
Wet the grout line with lemon, instead of water, and add the baking soda to create a paste. Lemons act as a natural brightener to help get your grout looking clean and new.

  • good video however what would you suggest to handle the following, 500sq ft of tile and the grout is colored? Would not the baking soda make the grout "white"?

    K

  • @laheyk, good question. Firstly, an acidic cleaner can permanently damage the pigment in the grout, so keep to pH neutral cleaners for daily maintenance. For thorough scrubbing as demo'd here, try the baking soda trick, but test it on a small part of the tile in an inconspicuous area first. It should work without discoloration, but it depends on your grout make. For a larger space, this method is still OK albeit time consuming. Consider a professional tile cleaner for the job.

  • @cleanmyspace ,Great video +nice vieuw hehehe.I thought baking soda was alkaline not acidide.

  • @lenkaeltumi thank you! Baking soda is not acidic...you don't need acid to accomplish this task!

  • Thanks for the tips... Question where did you get the cleaning tool?

  • @deikid8 that is a Vileda Pots and Pans scrub brush, and I think I got mine at a grocery store or Wal Mart.
