Clicking Without Clickers: Text-Message-Based Response Systems

Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College
Dr. Jeffery L. Buller, Dean

The use of clicking has contributed greatly to student engagement, particularly in larger classes. The problems with standard clickers are that the equipment is expensive and often bulky to move from class to class. New student response systems, however, allow the class to respond (either to multiple choice or open-ended questions) by using the text messaging capacities of their cell phones or their wifi enable laptops. Participants will have an opportunity to engage in this activity with their own cell phones and/or laptops. Services such as mClk, polleverywhere.com, and letsgovote.com, will be explored.
