Ok, pay close attention... Epic is also used in terms of explaining something very long/huge like a movie (Ben Hur, which used a multitude of extras and has a long running time) or a book. When ppl say Epic Fail, they are trying to point out that it is a failure of epic proportions. Despite it's grammatical connotations in your dictionary, sunshine, it actually makes sense when used in those terms. Keep smiling ;)
