Was the RNC correct in supporting Lincoln Chafee in 2006, and when would you get involved in primaries?

  • I think supporting Chafee was the right decision because he was the incumbent and Rhode Island is a very liberal state so only a liberal Republican could win there. If it were a more conservative or moderate state I might feel differently, but Chafee was the most conservative Republican who could get elected in Rhode Island.

  • I also would like to ad that I am a member of the Club for Growth and I am increasingly dismayed by them targeting socially liberal candidates. I thought the Club for Growth was about fiscal conservatism and Linc Chafee was definitely a fiscal conservative.

  • I would have supported Chafee if I were Chairman of the RNC. You support the person that best fits the state's political ideology and that person was Chafee. I personally hope Chafee runs again because he will help to grow the party. FYI I am a fiscal and social conservative, hard-core.
