Installed the new clutch but it still engages a little at idle. Any suggestions how to prevent this?

  • Thanks for the info. I'm getting the aluminum clutch shortly. I have just replaced the clutch and bell for this very same reason. It's great to hear that you know what I'm talking about.

  • Hi folks!

Searching through google I found these answers in this video from youtube, I bought on ebay in metal version for my caliber 30, and the same thing happens to me, always stuck ... cclark440 and 33apd thanks for the reply, I've been helpful! :)

  • Get sand paper and rub it round the clutch material. only doin it due to being new.

  • take a new one to a machine shop, have them weld the weak section on either side but not to hot and re-machine to shape.ive done one like this n its going great but i think i was lucky that the balance came out fine and the spring remained in the metal without becoming to brittal.2 not tried this yet but about to soon.....blow torch hot n bend to shape re-forming the metal to the correct position on either side n leave to cool naturally.hover low till sure its gonna hold, full throtal will see...

  • hey buddy, the alloy housing helps BUT yhe thing is that all the clutches are not the same, some open up and bind forever from new, some just snap the lugs off from new and some but only a rare few work fine and only fine at best.the thing is even if you have one that seems to work fine if you check you will notice that 90percent of the time one lug is slightly further out that the outher, this will cause an inbalance at rpm, vibration etc.so far i have 2 fixes only one is tried n tested wich is.....

  • This has to do with the clearance between the clutch lining and the clutch shoe. There needs to be about .01" (0.25mm) and .015" (0.38mm) clearnace all the way around. If the clearance is to much > .02" (0.50mm) the clutch shoe tends to spring out, and stay that way. This has happened to me several times. There is an aluminum clutch bell that you can get that will help keep this from happening.
