@nabuchiznasar You're talking about a SYMBOLIC penalty, in the initiation (at least at my lodge and the ones I've visited) that it is purely symbolic of the pain someone feels when breaking their word. As for trouble leaving, I've a friend at work who left since he couldn't make meetings anymore, he didn't have a problem leaving, if anything he's thinking of coming back now he has some more time.
