A rare sight. North Korean television broadcasting a video of a U.S. delegation to the country - led by U.S. envoy Stephen Bosworth.

The aim, according to a Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman, is to try to coax the hermit state back to nuclear talks with major powers.

[Jiang Yu, Spokesperson, Chinese Foreign Ministry]:
"U.S. envoy Stephen Bosworth is visiting North Korea, we support the contact and dialogue between the U.S. and North Korea. We also hope this dialogue will be helpful for advancing the understanding and resolving the concerns between the two countries. We also hope this dialogue can help restart the six-party talks."

Bosworth - see here earlier in South Korea - is the first envoy sent by U.S. President Barack Obama to the North.

U.S. officials say the aim is to assess whether the North really does plan to return to the negotiating table.

And whether it'll stick by its pledge to give up its nuclear weapons program in return for aid and security guarantees.

North Korea withdrew from nuclear talks earlier this year, and drew the world's attention with missile tests and the test of a nuclear device.

Events that triggered fresh U.N. sanctions.

As the Bosworth-Pyongyang visit got underway, the U.S. and South Korean forces were conducting a combined air assault exercise.

Such maneuvers are denounced by the North, but the U.S. and their South Korean allies says they're essential to maintain battle-readiness.

  • All your americans who think that the US should invade the DPRK are fools. If you nuke them, they nuke you back. Get over it.

  • Jiang Yu , lying piece of shit

  • Yes, war should be avoided at all costs and used ONLY as a last resort.

But I have to ask when is it going to dawn on the rest of the world that the people of N. Korea really need some help?

    Thats all Im asking.

  • @SeeYouNextFall

Dude, I agree with you on that they cause problems. And we send them support too.

But I was saying something from their view, when it comes to "political problems" you want to solve problems other than "making more conflicts", right? If not, then maybe just stop talking and start a war.

  • Huh?

North Korea is NOT an equal country.

When the leaders of NK starve their own people, I would day that no they are not equal.

America sends north Korea millions of pounds of rice and grain each year so the people dont starve. Yet the NK government takes it and gives it to the communist leaders, not the children or poor people.

Nuclear weapons have nothing to do with this.

  • @SeeYouNextFall

I didn't say NK is a responsible country and I totally agree they cause some troubles. But you have to understand, making conflicts is not the way to solve problems. And plus, I mean the reasons US doesn't want them to use nuclear is weird. It is like , hey bro, I cannot sell you knives or guns(or you making a gun or knives ) because you are a "bad" guy.

Well, US has 2000+ nuclear weapons can destroy their countries, and you keep thinking they are evil.

  • US doesn't treat NK as a equal country. If I consider you as an "evil" country, then why should I care about what you say and keep the promise to you? And last year, a lot of times US started meeting with Japan & south K. , even claim in UN that they should ge punished or w/e. Having a meeting without NK, but all the issues are about it. It's like to say you guys are not good enough to play this game, we 'll decide your fate something like that.

  • @SeeYouNextFall

From another view. I totally understand your thinking. But here is just from another view of this political shit.

    1. Before you blame they never keep promises, have you asked why? I bet the media never talked about it. or may say because they want something.

Well actually, may be they do , but also you guys did something that they can use as excuses. Let me give you an example of why they quit conferences between 6 countries.

  • I dont get it.

Every time we (the USA) meets with North Korea, the North Koreans make promises that they never keep.

Why does the west even waste its time with North Korea?
