  • @silachan Filtering sound is a midbrain function. Go to the Brain Highways site or just search for Brain Highways here on YouTube. They address exactly what you're talking about. We did listening therapy for nearly a year (3-5 hours per week) and I know it helped but my son is/was young and can't really verbalize change that happens over months. He doesn't hide under the table anymore in restaurants, so I know it helped. But he's still really loud so I know it could still be improved.

  • @silachan I do believe that integrated listening can solve auditory processing problems. However, my latest belief is that you must start by rewiring the brain from the very very base. That means returning to what you did when you were 3 mo old. The brain develops neural pathways when the body moves (or is moved) in various ways. There is a program my son is in now called Brain Highways. It is the place to start because it starts AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF YOU. Brain Highways > online program!

  • @preprandialcocktail How neat. Was he able to start discerning between background vs foreground noise too? I have trouble with that, and it's made college life difficult when you can't hear the professor over the sounds of the computer thinking, or the fans.

Btw, if you have any new vids, please post them :) I love seeing this, it brings hope that maybe someday not only will I be helping kids like this , but I can receive the same needed help for myself.

  • @silachan The listening system is Integrated Listening by Ron Minson and is therapeutic. I've used it myself and it really does give you more energy, make you happy, etc. For my son though, it's had much more meaningful effects on his auditory processing and even on his brain function in general. After a while we began to notice that after 10 mins of listening, he would need to go to the bathroom. It helps his brain organize even mundane functions!

  • I know this is an old movie, but were the headphones just to cancel out noise in the background (due to auditory sensitivities) or part of the therapy itself (like, the Listening therapy)? Just curious :)
