@beast72486 ehhhh it wans't very accurate, but it was based on a true story (General Marion). Uniforms were off, and dating was off by alot.

@countrymyheart50 You can thank England for all those things that America holds dear - law, order, the concept of individual liberty, industry and economy, etc.
But the superpower and EU comments are a bit of a joke (erm allies!); sheer size has helped the US. Proportionally, it's a similar size to any other developed nation.
But yeah, a great film, a cool country.

@bicepius It's not false it has truths within but by no means a history reference. I must have missed the memo where the director said they were making a documentary. Agree with the acting and soundtrack observation.

@VincentVonDoom47 Not true. Don't overgeneralize. Just because our government may be full of corrupt pigs and idiots, and some of the people are less than deserving of what they have, doesn't take away from the glory of America as a whole. It's still a beacon of freedom and liberty at its heart.

This is one true epic film. The Patriot should of at least ran up for best directing, if not best film of 2000. Gladiator, proven to be a instant classic, understandably was up for best film nominee, winning the oscar. These two films were at least few of the best films in theaters that same year.
