Te Puia is based in a geothermal region of Rotorua, New Zealand.
At the core of Te Puia is the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute, originally set up and legislated through the efforts of Sir Apirana Ngata in 1926.
Since that time, Te Puia has nurtured and trained hundreds of artists in our time-honoured traditions of wood carving, weaving, pounamu and other art forms.
Te Puia also offers the wonders of Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley -- including the world famous Pohutu geyser -- our foundation as New Zealand's most iconic cultural heritage attraction. With this we incorporate the traditions of guiding and manaakitanga that visitors have experienced for almost 120 years.
Te Puia, a living legacy of people, culture and place.
