  • I recently returned from another holiday in Slovenia and had a ride behind a Reagan. At full throttle the sound is awesome! Also saw one of the two remaining Kennedy 661's in Ljubljana Central Workshops, which had been repaired and was being run- the sound of the 567 was also great!

  • @andersley i know that ur post is 2 years old, But when you said that you had a ride behind a Regan, did you mean the 1st car behind the locomotive. And also did

    you ever ride inside it.

  • I have ridden behind Reagans many times, but only in passenger cars, unfortunately never in the locomotive, but I live in hope! :)

  • Mr Andersley , could you please give me some information about 661 and 644 locomotives? Do they have the same engine as 664 locos ?(EMD 16 645 E) Or different ? They are as interesting as 664 model locos.

    Regards ,

    Burak Elitez

  • Burak, the Co-Co 661 is GM type G16CW and has a 16-567C (661-1) or 16-567E (661-4) rated at 1454 kW = 1,950 hp.

The A1A-A1A 644 is GM type G22A 12-645E rated at 1230 kW = 1,650 hp. I agree they are all very interesting. Hope that helps, Alan

  • I know, that Yugoslavian made diesel engines was sort of hibryd beetween Electro Motive Division chasis, powertrain, powerplant, and traction motors (partly imported, most built in Djuro Djakovic factory, and it's supliers), and General Electrics hull, and general systems (all built in Djuro Djakovic and Rade Koncar factory for electric machinery)

-so everyone rate those Croatian/Slovenian/Serbian locos by the looks but it's powering components are mainly EMD, and variating beetween 3300-3600hp

  • According to SZ these are rated at 1640 kW = 2198 hp. A turbocharged 16 cylinder 645 produces 3,000 hp, the 3,600 hp in the SD45 was achieved by using 20 cylinders. The GM designation for this export model is G26HCW-2.

  • Lovely sound from that classic supercharged GM. They go and spoil everything new with wussy silencing and things, don't they.

  • good video

  • there is one error concerning 661 (2061) class of diesel locos: it used 16-567C or 16-645E motor so that it wouldn't lose on output power. according to the Wikipedia, there is no 16-567E motor (only 12-567E exists).

  • the class on the video, 664 (HZ 2062) has a 16-645E engine (supercharged, 16-cylinder engine) with power output of 2200 hp. the last class (663, or 2063 in croatian terms) is the biggest and the strongest diesel engine in croatian railways, and was the strongest in yugoslav railways as well. it has 16-645E3 engine (turbocharged, 16-cylinder) capable of delivering 3300 hp. 2063 = SD-40 :-)

    HTH

  • in croatian railways, there are 5 types of big diesel engines: classes 2043 (derived from 2061, former 661), 2044 (former 645), 2061 (former 661), 2062 (former 664) and 2063 (former 663 class). in the brackets, you'll find the former yugoslav railway class number. type 2043 uses 16-645E engine (2000 hp, 16-cylinder, supercharged). 2044 uses a 12-645E3 engine (2475 hp, 12-cylinder, turbocharged). 2061 (original kennedy) uses 16-567C or E version of the engine (1950 hp, 16-cylinder, supercharged).

  • Alan, thank you for the information. It's exactly the things I wondered about those locos.I learnt that those locos are weaker than 664 models (in turkey , DE 22000)

    Cheers
